Welcome To Mates 500 Relay

Six mates, 1000km, one big issue: Mates 500 Relay for men’s health

In 2011 six mates from Manjimup set off on a 500 kilometre relay to raise money for charity, in 2012 they will trek an additional 500 kilometres again for the sake of raising awareness of regional men’s health.

The second “Mates 500 Relay” saw the same six mates running 1,000 kilometres through 22 towns and 16 WA shires raising funds for the Regional Men’s Health Initiative and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

The six participants, who are all actively involved in the Lower South West Football League, initially planned the event as a one off leadership challenge to inspire the best players from the LSWFL to make themselves available for the Landmark Country Football Championships team.

The inspiration to turn the run into an inaugural event came from the group’s desire to help further promote the importance of health and wellbeing to men in regional areas after raising over $120,000 in 2011 and 2012.

After a year off, our runners have returned stronger than ever – and are now aiming to run 1500km, through more than 40 towns and hold 11 health promotion events.  Along the way they hope to further raise awareness and funds for regional men’s health and wellbeing.
