The relay event aimed to promote health awareness for regional men and was the brainchild of Paul Omodei.

“It started off as a way to build up fitness and inspire some of the best players from the league but now it has grown to be much more than that,” Mr Omodei said.

“We have turned our attention to raising money for charity and helping promote the message tomen in regional areas to be aware of their health.”

Six mates, Paul Omodei, Heath East, Anthony Stubberfield, Tim Lyster, Mat Johnston and Wayne Barnden, ran a relay of almost 500km over 79 hours, passing through 11 towns in the five shires of the LSWFL district.

Money raised through sponsorship and fundraising activities during the relay was donated to the Regional Men’s Health Initiative and Prostate Cancer Foundation of Australia.

Each evening the event will stage a function in a different town along the relay route, with health professionals running various activities and talks having a very real focus on raising awareness of men’s health issues across the regions.
