Day 6 – Wagin to Kojonup (142 kms)

Where in the world is Moodiarrup?

Anyone who knows Heath East, will have witnessed many times the great resolve shown this morning when he was out on the road 2 hours prior to the other runners walking 12 kms to give his Mates a head start for Day 6.

Accompanied by his wife, one car with 2 support crew (and many hungry sheep looking for an easy feed) they walked in darkness until the rest of the crew caught up.

With a good head start the Mates hit Darkin at 9.30 am with the next turn for Moodiarrup. Battling some undulating terrain and a stiff head wind the enormity of the week tolled as the pace slightly decreased. With the arrival of Cameron Knapton and Dean Kemp, the Mates rallied and descended the main street of Kojonup at 5.10 pm bringing Day 6 to an end.

Fatigued and blistered, spirits are high as we are homeward bound!  A special mention to Brendan Earl who joined the Mates as a support runner and covered 50 kms himself.  And as always the logistical legend, Mr Nigel Reeve on his deadly treadly.

JOIN THE HOMECOMING CREW – the Mates will run into the Manjimup Show Grounds on Friday, 16 March 2012 at approximately 6.00 pm.
Please join us and welcome home the Mates 500 Relay – words simply cannot describe this truly inspiring event…
